True change can only be achieved when we come together as a community, exclusion of sectors because of differences will not only promote division but deny the opportunity to attain the sustainable development we are aiming for. On so many occasions, the youth participation in our community is less valued and not being taken seriously in social reform due to cultural expression beyond the context of traditionally acceptable social standards. The age supremacy based leadership and practices have driven away innovation to the extent of creating conflict and diversion. We are in the nexus of intersecting social issues: climate crisis, conflict, modern day slavery, civil unrest and confusions. It is now that we need to collaboratively involve everyone including the youth and marginalized sectors of our society.
Generation Z plays a vital role in shaping and reshaping the future of the society, “the will power to create, reshaping our future and aid us when our time has come to take a lead.” The youth though they are young and have less experience or exposure are not exempted from the impact of social issues. The youth are the group of individuals whose resilience and flexibility have been seen in humanitarian voluntary works, civic affairs and calamities. “I may not be recognized, sometimes being looked at differently. I act when someone needs my help.” “My elders look at me as lazy, always on social media and online games. I know what to do when a disaster strikes, I study without them knowing or they may not acknowledge it when they see.”
The focus group discussions have opened doors to youth, a place to share their narratives, discuss their thoughts, what they envisioned, their personal challenges and hopes. To have a support group, courage from rejection and criticisms, learn from the experience of others, be inspired and strengthen leadership. A space that develops critical thinking, ability to think rationally and systematically about information to evaluate arguments, identify assumptions, and draw logical conclusions and later in decision making.
The engagement shapes the young minds for personal growth, fostering open communication and strengthens relationships, allowing deeper connections and mutual understanding. It ignites participants to explore new possibilities and connect with others in innovativeness. Unlocking one’s potential and inspiring those around to take action. Leading to significant rewards, both personally and professionally, navigating the complexities of life with courage and determination. “I hope that many youths like us participate in this kind of activity and get involved in community building.”
